Join us for an engaging and thought-provoking session with Dr. William (Bill) Nicoll, an internationally recognized educator and counselor with over 30 years of university teaching, research, and international training experience.
In this session, The Family/Child/School Triad: What Research Tells Us About Connection, Learning, and Well-Being, Dr. Nicoll will share insights from his decades of work in Adlerian Psychology, social-emotional learning, and school counseling, exploring how relationships among children, families, and schools shape student success and mental health.
Participants will gain practical, research-informed tools for creating connected school communities that honor belonging, significance, and resilience principles deeply rooted in Adlerian thought.
About the Speaker
Bill is a widely known speaker, trainer, and consultant on resilience-based strategies for working with children, families, schools and with clinical mental health issues. For many years, he was the highest rated national trainer for the American Counseling Association’s National Professional Development program. He has been a consultant for the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas School and for several international school organizations. Bill has provided consulting and professional training services throughout N. America, South & Central America, Africa, Europe and Asia for numerous mental health organizations, universities, and international schools.
Dr. Nicoll is currently a Consultant and Trainer at the Resilience Counseling & Training Center in North Conway, New Hampshire, USA, where he provides professional development and consulting services to mental health organizations and educational institutions. His areas of expertise include brief therapy and counseling, family systems therapy, and resilience-focused interventions. He also works extensively with schools around the world, focusing on social-emotional learning (SEL); Bullying prevention; classroom behavior management; Home-school collaboration; Mental health promotion in youth; and school climate/school culture improvement.
Dr. Nicoll brings decades of professional leadership to his work. He served as:
Director of the Adlerian Training Institute (1996–2012)
Professor in the Department of Counselor Education at Florida Atlantic University (2003–2016)
Department Chair in the Counseling Program at Florida Atlantic University (1997–2003)
National trainer in Brief Counseling for the American Counseling Association’s National Professional Development program
President of the Ohio Counseling Association (1978-80)
President of the American School of The Hague Teachers Association (1979-81)
Dr. Nicoll has developed professional development training programs in applications of Adlerian (Individual) Psychology for numerous organizations and universities in both North America and Europe. Bill was recently named an Honorary Member of the European Association for Applied Psychology in recognition of his exceptional contributions to applied psychology, international mental health education, and the promotion of resilience-focused practices worldwide.
An accomplished author, Dr. Nicoll’s extensive professional publications in books and journals have had a lasting impact on educational psychology, school-based family counseling, and resilience-based counseling. He is recognized as one of the seminal authors on the issue of school-based family counseling. Bill has also served on editorial boards for both national and international professional journals.
